One of the wonders of our world is the process by which a caterpillar morphs into a butterfly. After hatching from an egg, a hungry caterpillar embarks on a constant feeding regimen to grow in size. One day the caterpillar stops its search for food, hangs upside down from a leaf or twig, and spins into a shiny chrysalis. Inside its protective casing, the caterpillar transforms its body and emerges as a beautiful butterfly.
When you move beyond your mind to a place of pure awareness of the divine union that permeates the universe, you gain the mind of Christ that is conscious of its oneness with God and all of creation. The structure of your brain is then also altered, creating new neural connections and increasing grey matter.
A group of 79 taxi drivers in London underwent MRI scans throughout a period of four years. The study found that the more time the cab drivers spent on the job, the more the grey matter in their brain increased and enlarged their hippocampus, the spatial memory lobe in their brain.
Before we consider the actual process of transmutation or metamorphosis, let’s look at what we are learning from science about how our biology continues to evolve, even in as short a timespan as our lifetime.
Imagine, for a moment, a world where we no longer regard one another based on gender, race, religion, sexuality, nationality, party affiliation, education, social status, and so on. If I’m as conscious of you as I am of myself, and that consciousness is anchored in an all-encompassing love, then the very essence of God would be on full display as Christ (the visible image of the invisible God) in and through me.
