The Essence of our Being

by Jun 22, 2021Theme: The Power of Love

John Lennon, the Beatles’ legend, said, “There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance.”

The ancient writer of the First Letter of John points out that fear involves torment, but perfect love drives out all fear for there is no fear in love. Love is higher, bigger, and grander than all else. When you gaze into the eyes of your lover, not much else seems to matter.

Upon arriving home from a busy day at work, the unconditional love that you feel from your dog or cat makes the stress of the day fade for a moment. Spending a day with orphaned children in Africa, who all shower you with love and affection, has the ability and power to stay with you for the rest of your life. I know because it happened to me.

Why do those moments in life that mean the most to us involve unconditional love? Because love is the fabric of existence—the essence of our being.
