Forgive Them
Continued from yesterday…
When Jesus was at his lowest point on the cross, he offered forgiveness and understanding to the ones who had betrayed him and made false accusations against him.
Suffering the humiliation and excruciating pain of crucifixion, Jesus prayed, Forgive them, for they know not what they are doing. Jesus acknowledged that they were unconscious of the true self, and acted contrary to what was deeply imbedded in them.
Not only did Jesus demonstrate an extraordinary capacity for love and compassion, but he also identified with the people that others rejected.
He was compassionate toward the homeless, the illegal immigrants, the criminals who were incarcerated, and the physically and mentally ill. No one escaped the bond and connection that Jesus shared.
As much as Jesus was in the Father, he was in the other. His sense of self was not limited to his own human body, but his consciousness extended to the whole.
